Statement of Faith

Statement of Christian Faith
The ministry of Heartbeats is based upon the Bible, God’s Spirit-inspired written word. We believe that it was written without error (inerrant) in the original manuscripts and is the final authority in all matters on which it speaks. We agree on the following statements which historically have been held by all Christians. We desire unity in love and allow for freedom of conviction on other doctrinal matters provided that no such interpretations become an issue which hinders the overall mission of Heartbeats.

1. There is one true God, eternally existing in three Persons – Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Gen. 1:1-2; Deut. 6:4; Matt. 3:16-17; John 14:5-14; I John 5:7

2. Jesus Christ is God made flesh through His miraculous conception by the Holy Spirit and virgin birth.  He is fully man and fully divine. Matt. 1:20-21; Philippians 2:5-11

3. Jesus lived a sinless life and voluntarily atoned for the sins of men by dying as their substitute. His death satisfied divine justice and accomplished salvation for those who trust in Him alone. Romans 5:12-21

4. Jesus conquered death by rising from the dead in a glorified body.  He ascended into Heaven
and sat down at the right hand of God where He intercedes for His followers. Matt. 28:1-10; Rom. 8:34

5. Man was created in the image of God.  Man’s nature is corrupted by sin and sin separated man from God.  All of mankind has sinned and fallen short of God’s glory. Gen. 1:27; Rom. 3:23

6. The salvation of man is wholly a work of God’s free grace.  God imputes righteousness to those who put their faith in Christ alone for salvation. Rom. 3:24; Rom. 9:18; Rom. 10:8-13

7. The Holy Spirit has come into the world to reveal and glorify Christ.  He convicts and draws sinners to Christ and continually indwells them from the moment of spiritual birth. John 16:5-16

8. Every believer is called to live in the power of the indwelling Spirit, so as not to fulfill the lust of the flesh, but to bear spiritual fruit to the glory of God. Rom. 8:1-17; Galatians 5: 22-26

9. Jesus Christ is the Head of the Church, His Body.  The Body is admonished to assemble together regularly for worship and edification. Eph. 1:22-23; Col. 1:18; Heb. 10:25

10. Jesus Christ will one day return to earth – personally, visibly, and bodily – to consummate the eternal plan of God. Believers will spend eternity with God and experience the fullness of His glory.  Unbelievers will have everlasting judgment and condemnation apart from God. John 14:3; Acts 1:9-11; Matt. 25:31-46

11. Until the day of Christ’s return, the Body is to proclaim the Gospel throughout the world and disciple men of every nation. Matt. 28: 18-20
